KETTERING BASED CHARITY WINS MAKE IT HAPPEN CHILDRENS CHARITY AWARD OF £10,000

Local children’s charity SOLVE IT who are based at 1B Headlands, Kettering, received a late but very special Christmas present today by being chosen as one of 90 deserving winners of a £10,000 Children’s Charity Award from RBS/NatWest.

The £1million Children’s Charity Awards were launched in December by RBS/NatWest and a national newspaper to give away £1 million to UK children's charities.  RBS and NatWest staff, together with the newspapers readers were asked to nominate their favourite children’s charities and more than 4000 charities across the UK were put forward.

SOLVE IT was nominated by several members of the public for the outstanding contribution it makes to the local community by helping parents of children who suffer from Volatile Substance Abuse (VSA) both locally and nationally.

SOLVE IT was established in 1989 by Barbara Skinner following the death of her son, Darren, caused by VSA. Since this date, Solve It has continually provided VSA education, training, and awareness for parents, professionals, the community and most importantly children and young people.

Barbara Skinner, founder of SOLVE IT, said: “Today, 20 years on from the death of my son, SOLVE IT has progressively developed its service provision, increasing its contacts and widening its geographical growth yearly whilst providing a free service to children, young people, parents, carers and those affected by such abuse. To continue to grow and help more children we need all the financial help we can get and this award from RBS / NatWest really will make a big difference to the charity and everyone we help. Thank you RBS!”

Jon Fox, the Regional Managing Director for NatWest said, “At Christmas time the focus for many of us is very much on children, that's why we decided to focus our annual £1m Christmas charity donation on organisations that support children going through difficult times. Rather than picking one large national charity to benefit we asked our staff and readers of a national newspaper which children's charities we should support and a staggering 4,000 charities were nominated.  I am delighted that local charities like SOLVE IT have been chosen as winners and I am sure this award will give them a great start to 2008."
