A team of 11 young people from the Southend Princes Trust decided they needed to raise awareness of the dangers of substance abuse after learning about the subject from Deborah Clarke, National Development Office at the Charity SOLVE IT.
Although the group had no experience or knowledge of how to make a film, they challenged themselves to make 'Killer in a Can', to help inform their local community.
The group fundraised over £800 to finance the project which took over three weeks to complete. The project was difficult, but became a massive success. You can view the film here
The film has been shown on national TV and is used by Essex Police in youth organisations and schools nationwide. The project also gave the Team the opportunity to improve their communication and teamwork, grow in confidence and learn new skills.
All 11 Team members have subsequently gone into employment or training.
Celebrate Success
The Team is the East of England's Community Impact Award 2007 winner. The award recognises the positive contribution of young people to the local community. |
